Potential threats that IT has introduced to society.

There are many potential threats to society, Due to the introduction of the IT industry, such as

Phishing causes a lot of problems for people who just want to have a peaceful life. Used to try and obtain usernames, passwords and credit card details, and in some cases to get money, indirectly.

Cyber-bullying is to use technology to harm or harass someone and in the US is also considered to defame someone and humiliate someone.

Spam is where a sender uses emails with a link; the link takes people to a phishing site or malware. In different jurisdictions it is legal, such as America.

Denial of service attacks are used to temporarily or indefinitely disable a network or server, and they are often sent out by one person or system. There are many places that are targeted by Denial of service attacks, such as; banks, credit card companies and root name servers.

There are only a select few solutions to prevent this:

Phishing can be prevented through the web browser or e-mail clients, showing the web browser they are actually viewing.

Cyber-bullying can be solved by getting a filter system on main social networking sites such as; Facebook and Twitter.

Another way to solve cyber bullying is to;

§  Label your tolerance level for abusive comments.

§  Consider eliminating anonymous comments.

§  Ignore the trolls.

Or

§  If you see someone behaving badly, tell them so.

Spam is hard to get rid of but when it arrives in the inbox, the best thing to do is to ignore it or just delete it.

§  Another thing to do is to report the sender whenever you receive spam.
